Vinton is a town in eastern Roanoke County, Virginia, United States. The population was 8,059 at the 2020 census. Vinton is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Area and the Roanoke Region of Virginia.

Known as a

Bedroom Community

A bedroom community is a town or city that is primarily used as a place to live, rather than a place to work. It is a town that is located near a larger city and is used as a place to live by people who work in the larger city.

"A Good Place to Live And Do Business"

It can be truthfully said that Vinton is the beneficiary of much careful planning on the part of the Great Architect of the Universe.

An Exit Ramp to Remember

The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469.1 miles long and eleven million people drive it every year, most of them looking for somewhere to stop.

At Milepost 112.2, Route 24 descends directly into Vinton. One of only eight Virginia exits on the entire Parkway. The Roanoke River Gorge overlook is three miles north. Explore Park's 1,100 acres sit at Milepost 115.1.

Technically, a Lake Exists

The Niagara Dam, built downstream of town in 1906, holds back the Roanoke River into a 62-acre reservoir some maps are generous enough to call a lake. Its two 1.2-megawatt turbines make it the smallest hydroelectric plant Appalachian Power still operates in Virginia.
